In a press meeting with the administration station linked to the General
Command of the Algerian Muslim Scouts, Scout Captain Abdelkader Mukbi
highlighted during his interview the history of the regiment named El-Kutb
(the axis), which is considered to be one of the inveterate regiments.
It traces its establishment to 1935, at the hands of the following group
of scout leaders, in order: Ammar Lagha, Kadour Bakaar, Abdelkader
Zakaar, Boualam Mousaaoui, Boualam SaadAllah. The Regiment was the
second to be established in the history of the scouting movement after
the El-Falah (success) regiment, it was then followed by the El-Shihab
(the shooting star), El-Ijtihad (Diligence), El-Islah (The reformation),
and the El-Kamal (Perfection) regiments. After the organisation of the
French Youth, the martyr Mohammed Bourass saw the need to form an
organisation for Algerian youths similar to the French organisation.
Scout Captain Abdelkader Mukbi added that the spread of scouting
regiments across the country helped greatly in uniting leaders together,
which was the intention in the founding the Algerian Youth. Two martyrs
of the liberation revolution came from the El-Kutb regiment, at a time
when those involved in the revolution were organised within the
framework of the scouting movement, with examples such as Mohammed
Derwish, who was then employed as a French teacher, Scout Commander
Rashid Mahi, a history teacher, as well as Ammar Lagha, who was the Head
Treasurer of the Algerian Muslim Scouts during the period from 1947 to
the year 1955, in addition to a collection of cultural figures, such as
the artist Elkadir Elmarhoum, Abderahman Aziz, Jafar Bak, Mohammed
Eniha, Ben Didoush Elgouiti, Hassan Elhassani and others in the arts.
With regards to the participation of the regiment in international
gatherings, Scout Captain Mukbi confirmed that some members of the El-Kutb
regiment were part of the Algerian scouting delegation at the
international Jamboree in France in 1947, in addition to the
international jamboree in Canada, held in 1955, in which the
participants worked to present the noble message of the liberating
revolution, inviting all the world to assist in it, as well as during
the Arab Conference held in Syria in 1954. The Algerian delegation was
also fortunate to be received by the President of the Arab Rebublic of
Egypt, President Jamal Abdelnasar. Finally, the scout captain emphasised
during his discussion that the closure of scouting regiments and the
cessation of their activities during the period of the French occupation
of Algeria was due to the connection of over 3 thousand scout commanders
from different regiments with the armed revolution. He was also resolute
in calling all scouts to the necessity of preserving all of the values
of the Algerian Scouting Movement, including its songs and principles,
and work towards promoting it in the spirits of the children of this
nation, as it is the foundation of their identity on an international
level, as an Algerian cannot exist without knowing his or her origins.
