In the framework of assistance projects conducted by the Algerian Muslim Scouts, the General Command of the Algerian Muslim Scouts outlined a special program for the blessed month of Ramadan wherein it designated 10 centres throughout the capital solely for the distribution of hot meals and Ramadan baskets. Scout Commander Abdurahman Arar, Director of Social Service and Development, confirmed that the Ramadan Baskets are prepared and presented in accordance with the budget provided for the project. As with regards to the hot meals, 10 centres covering 30 different towns will reach poor and needy families and the scheme will be carried out in coordination with provincial leaders, the Administrative Director of Social Affairs, and Scout Commanders from the protectorates. The example of the capital is considered to be a step which will be broadened to cover all of the provinces in the nation. Concerning the hot meals, it has been determined that 1000 meals a day will be distributed to travellers and the needy, with Scout leaders and itinerants from 10 regiments in the capital supervising the project. The human recruitment will be considerable in addition to the assistance stations, which regularly support circumcision projects for boys during the 27th night of Ramadan, most of which are for the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr (the festival for the celebration of the end of Ramadan), and are carried out by the majority of scouts regiments as rotational visits to the elderly, hospital inpatients and needy families. Such activities as these are part of a well-founded tradition within the scouting movement.
